Re: Farm Fields
I don't think working on horses is a good way to get horse attitude. I think it's better to get a horse first then train em each day. You get .5 skill for 50 stamina.

Xavierson wrote:I figured out from day one, when reading the forums, that a field was not viable. I have just been sowing fields and upping my horse attitude everyday. 2 labour units, 20 stamina on horse attitude. I make about a silver a day. It is working well so far.
fields might not seem viable at first, but they eventually make you a good amount of money. for every 10 farming skill, you get 1 extra bag, and for every town upgrade you get 2. all this, and you dont have to use any of your own stamina if you dont want to.
so lets take wheat for example, with no skill at all and no upgrade, the yield is 14-20 wheat. at the low end, with town buying wheat at 38, means 14 bags (unlucky) = 532 bronze and 20 bags = 760. So, if you paid average amount for each cycle (25 bronze per unit) you lose over 2 silver your first cycle if unlucky, and only gain 10 bronze if you are lucky.
in spero, we have 1 upgrade, and will soon be 2 on wheat. each upgrade adds 2. so, currently, unlucky and unskilled get 16 bags = 608; meaning you lose almost 150 bronze; but a lucky 22 bags will earn you 836 bronze, meaning you earn 86 bronze without doing anything.
now lets say you have a skill of 30, and the town has 2 upgrades. that means if you are unlucky, you will gain 21 bags. if you paid average wage of 25 per unit, you are guaranteed to make money. 21 * 38 = 798 - 750 wages = 48 bronze made, and 1 point in your farming skill earned without spending any stamina. If you have that skill and town upgrades and are lucky, your max yield is 27 wheat. Thats 1026 bronze, for a profit of 276 bronze..
farming can be very profitable, it just requires the investment to make it so. luckily in spero, we have the town able to meet us halfway and upgrade the fields.
once i get my farming skill to 100, with 2 town upgrades, i will harvest 28-35 bags of wheat per cycle. a 35 bag harvest of wheat = 1330. if wages paid are 750, thats a lot of profit to be made.
Re: Farm Fields
However you have been at this for a long time. I on the otherhand started less than two weeks ago.
I will be investing in a good amount of money to support my field etc before I actually get one. If that makes sense.

Re: Farm Fields
HMm, I think you wheat farmers are doing pretty well paying your profits with the town treasury to upgrade them. More than well enough.
Xavier, if you get your farming skills up and work your own fields, it'll cost you a bit less comparitively to operate them since you use less stamina. Just a though.

- You have gained 28 bags of Wheat from harvesting one of your fields.
Farming:31.000
38*28 bags of wheat = 1064 bronze.

Re: Farm Fields
Mmkay, my first wheat field harvest was 22 wheat.
Going by Camaar's prices I'll make 9.9 silver, by Spero's I'll make 8.34 silver.
Since I was hiring at 50 bronze per labour unit.. that's a 5 silver loss at least

Re: Farm Fields
Yeah, I see people paying at 30 and 40 bronze per unit and it makes me wonder why the hell we are upgrading wheat cultures.

Don't hire for 50 bronze per labour unit?

Re: Farm Fields
Look, considering bread was 35 and fish 15 last I looked, why are we even trying to lower bread prices? Maybe we'd be better off focusing on fishing or chicken ranching. Since it looks like we'd have to more than double the efficiency of the bread industry, is it actually going to pay off?

Re: Farm Fields
Well thats the issue, if we don't have bread we won't have fish or wood or iron; because that is the only thing you can eat out of town. It's true, someone can very well eat at home, fish and then return the next day to eat at home again, but if you factor in that most people hire followers it usually doesnt happen like that.
We aren't going to upgrade anything for awhile right now, and let the market try to find a steady medium.

Most (all?) out of town followers will leave you when you reenter the city.Brian wrote:I thought that followers were paid by the day? You pay them by the trip?

Re: Farm Fields
Well the monastary is a city too. Did anyone ever make a chart comparing the yields of all fields, or was that going to happen eventually with the information from this thread?

Here is some additional and (currently) correct info.
Random gains vary from 14 to 20.
+ 1 extra for each 10 points on farming skill (not 5).
+ 2 extra for each town field upgrade in the right culture (not 1).
I hope this helps you out a little. If not please let me know Cause I appriciate your help
That is for wheat. The rest are 7-10 base

Re: Farm Fields
With changes to mood and corn, was considering an upgrade to give each corn field in our town more output.
Any suggestions or comments are welcomed.

Re: Farm Fields
After thinking about it for a bit, I think we definitely need a corn upgrade. We need it for mood and if pigs are fixed, we are going to need it for that too.

Re: Farm Fields
Field Culture Upgrade
We'll need to stockpile a lot of corn for the upgrade then.
Upgrading the Corn Culture will cost the town 100 Corn and takes 5000 Labour Units. |
Enter total amount of Bronze payed for the entire upgrade: |
(The given bronze value will be dividened by the amount of labour units to calculate the wages) |
