At the Town Ranch you can choose to buy up to 3 ranch animals. Pigs are one of them.
Others are | Chicken | Cow | Horse | Pig | Sheep |

Ranch animal - Pig Pig
Price of pig is determined by Town council

Food: 1 Corn per day (optional - your pig grows faster and you get a better meat yield, see below)
Lifetime: 40 days
Produce by slaughtering: Meat & Writable Skins.
Yield varies based on Feeding & Pig Attitude(See Below)

You need: A butcher's knife to slaughter
____________________________
YIELD:

Meat :

The 2 factors, amount of fatness of pigs & your pig attitude determines the Yield.

Total meat = 1 meat (standard) + amount of fatness * 0.50 + your Pig attitude / 100 * amount of fatness

Writable Skins :

15 + additional amount depending on the weight of the Pig

____________________________

Special:
1. Feeding Corn increases Pig Attitude.
2. Pigs can now get fat faster after feeding a Corn. The chance to make your Pig twice as fat as normal depends on your Pig Attitude Skill.
3. There is a small chance for the Pigs to get fat when we feed them daily.
4. Pig boosting potion :
Drinking such a potion will let you smell like a pig, because of that your pigs will go crazy and become more fat in a instance. (The amount of fatness gained is random for each pig). Of course there are a few pigs who can't handle rapid fattening...those pigs explode (and are lost)! High quality potions have less chance of losing Pigs
5. +2 luck (Temp) bonus for each pig on ranch.
6. Eating meat (after it's cooked) increases Strength Skill
7. Slaughtering pig takes 25 stamina (Less as Pig attitude skill increases)
8. Slaughtering damages your knife with half of the stamina used for Slaughter, rounded up.
9. You can also hire someone else to slaughter your pig.

___________________________

Different gradations of pigs :
- Skinny
- Light
- Normal
- Chubby
- Fleshy
- Extra Fleshy
- Plump
- Fat
- Obese
- Super Obese
- Monstrous
- JUST TOO FAT
- The FATTEST

Note : Gradation of Pigs is not the same as fatness of pigs

A pig cost 4 silver and 00bronze.

Food: Free food
Lifetime: 30 days
Produces: Meat
You need: A butcher's knife to slaughter
Special: Pigs can be fattened every day besides giving them free food. To fat a pig you will need corn.

Ranch animal - Pig Pig

Gradations:

You have a Skinny Pig!
You have a Light Pig!
You have a Normal Pig!
You have a Chubby Pig!
You have a Fleshy Pig!
You have a Fleshy Pig!
You have a Extra Fleshy Pig!
You have a Plump Pig!
You have a Fat Pig!
You have a Obese Pig!
You have a Super Obese Pig!
You have a ???

I did an investigation by feeding my pig every day with free food (you must do this, because it will die if you don't) and with corn. If you feed them like this, the pig will upgrade every 3 days, except the first time. After one day feeding corn and free food the pig grows to light. So day 2 = light; Day 5 = normal; Day 8 = chubby etc.
The first time I had 18 pieces of meat after slaughtering; the second time I had 19 pieces of meat. In both cases I forgot to feed them 2 and 1 day. So I think the maximum of meat you can get is 20 pieces. The gradation does not decrease if you forget to feed or fatten. It just takes a day longer to grow to the next level. But what's the profit of holding pigs? In my opinion: none.

Costs
You have to buy the pig: 4 silver 00 bronze
Every day you need corn: 85 bronze * 30 days = 25 silver 50 bronze
Butchers knife to slaughter = 25/HP knife (you loose 25 points). In this example we take a cheap one and the price of the guide of the forgery. That means 7 silver 30 bronze + labour of 1 silver and 50 bronze: 25/300*8 Silver and 80 bronze = ca. 75 bronze.

Totally cost of keeping a pig: 30 silver and 25 bronze.

Profit:

Like I said: you get 19 or 20 peaces of meat. You can sell meat for 85 bronze (= same cost corn, logic?). So if we calculate: 20*85 bronze = 17 Silver.

Conclusion:
17 silver - 30 silver and 25 bronze = - 13 Silver and 25 bronze

Correct me if I'm wrong, but holding pigs is destruction of your own money.

Thank you Gawain! I haven't had a pig myself and no one has submitted any info about them here except you. When I'm back from mining I will check this out and see for myself. The case might be that the animal warden has to decrease the buying price of a pig, or that corn is too expensive (but I can't see it as a good solution to lower that cost as the corn field will not be profitable), or that something in the coding itself has to be looked over.

Gawain, your calculations are more or less correct.

Thanks for your effort, we will work on the problem Smile

New pig codes:

The coding for pigs have been updated.

Pieces of meat you will get when slaughtering a Pig:
+ 1 piece standard. (unchanged)
+ 0.5 piece of meat for each corn invested. (unchanged)
+ Your Pig Skill/100 * amount of corns fed to the pig.
(added)

Pigs have a standard life span of 40. Depending on your Pig Attitude they can live several days longer, but it is a risk of course.

The skill that matters is the one of the person who kills the animal.

Pig boosting potion:
This potion doesn't boost your skills, it boost your pigs.

Drinking such a potion will let you smell like a pig, because of that your pigs will go crazy and become more fat in a instance. Of course their are a few pigs who can't handle rapid fattening...those pigs explode (and are lost)!

Is there any more info one can receive about:

- The fattening consequences for pigs of taking the potion; (how much does the weight increase? Does it vary depending on the quality of the potion?)

- The explosion probabilities of pigs. What is the number? Does it vary on the quality of the potion?

Sometimes the info is just too scattered Smile

The potion has an effect on each pig in the ranch.
- Each pig gets randomly 9, 12, 15 or 18 extra weight.
- Each pig has a chance to explode. The chance is determined by your luck Skill (the more luck, the less chance on explosion) and on the quality of the potion, were a Cheap potion has 12% chance and a Grail Potion 2% chance on explosions Smile

Wait, don't you get +1 luck per pig? so more pigs means less chance for explosion, while at the same having more effect because there are more pigs?

+2 luck per pig, yes! Smile

Apparently it's a small multiplier effect, no big deal Smile

So, just to clarify.  You get 1 meat per pig, +0.5 meat per corn, alongside some from the slaughterer's skill.  Does feeding them non-corn have a chance of increasing fatness while corn is a 100% chance?

Also, no limit to max fatness right?  And this also means that it's best to have a specialist pig farmer managing a towns primary pig income rather than more casual farmers?  Would it be possible to get pig attitude added to the skill search so slaughter deals could be worked out?

I think there is a limit to max fatness... in "THE FATTEST PIG"! stance

Is there an up-to-date guide for pig keeping?

I see that every time I feed my pig a corn, it goes up a level.
There are 13 fatness levels.
So after 13 days, can I slaughter my pig? Is there any point to wait 40 days?

I'm afraid most of the guides in this forum are out-dated.
More information can be found still at our Wikia.
As for your question, you can slaughter your pig once it got the fattest. You could wait to maintain the temporary luck bonus but apart from there there's no point waiting 40 days.
