[RP] Life in Spero

Do you feel like roleplaying, but is a whole own topic a bit too enthusiastic? Just post in this topic! It can be as long or short as you want, just a single post or multiple and you can do it alone or ask some others to join. I'll kick off with a post about a random and secretly rather boring day in the life of Freya.

There she was. With a relieved sigh Freya managed to sit down against the tree next to her ranch. In front of her she saw her two cows and horse to be, peacefully grazing in the sun. Her very own cattle. It wasn't much yet, but well... expanding her ranch was one of those plans that still needed some preparation to be achieved. And to be fair: it just felt great to have a home and a cattle.

She actually was quite happy with what she achieved already. Less than a year ago she arrived in Spero. How little did she know back then? Nor did she know yet how lucky she was to end up in Spero. At first she barely managed to make enough money to gather some food and warm clothes, but the city gifted her some to help her survive all the thugs around. The people in tavern were generous with the beer and that's how she survived her first weeks. Working on the fields was tough and well, not very profitable either. Why did it seem like others just had better quality products?! It can't be a surprise that she was very happy when she finally saved enough to buy her first cow. After the good old Wailer gifted her a cheese curdle she really was able to survive herself. A diet of own made cheese even, life could be worse.

With a little grin she looked at her hands. Working on the fields was something she barely did anymore, but her hands didn't give that away. Some blisters that were slowly recovering decorated her fingers and showed that something went horribly wrong. Nope not from the fields and even the tailoring didn't cause that anymore like it did in the beginning. She was getting quite skilled in it. Hah, tailoring, one of those directions in life you just ended up with. She started with carpentry, but when she wanted to buy a journal she discovered the city had none. The decision was made quickly and without thinking. She would become tailor for the city, she could provide people journals, couldn't she? She could indeed, it wasn't Grail quality yet, although Apoc helped her with that every once in a while, but many people were writing in her creations. It gave her a sense of belonging and it probably was her best decision until now. So wait, her hands, what caused it then? This time she had been stupid enough to try to tame a horse into a warhorse... She thought she could stop the animal from running away using a rope... Freya, a young red-haired woman that wasn't the tallest woman around... Yeah, she could be funny... After her hands were damaged all over she realized she had to be clever and had to try this with seduction instead of force. A better strategy so it seems, who could have thought about that before trying. She would manage in the end, really, she would! Even if it took another 100 days, that horse would become her loyal Duchess.

It was already dark when Johan entered the Spero. He navigated through the barely lit streets of the town, trying to find his new home. It took him a while to find the correct street, but eventually he stood before the residence that was his now. This house represented a new beginning for him, away from the mistakes of his past live. While looking at the building he remembered the night that started his new life. He was at a low point in his life after the loss of his wife. It was a quiet night when Johan was drinking in the local tavern, trying to forget the great loss he just suffered. At that point a stranger approached him. Although it was a complete stranger it somehow felt like he had known the man for ages. The man managed to raise Johan's spirit, giving him a new purpose, goal, and answers he had been looking for. As part of the deal the two men made he was to start a new life in Spero. And that was how he got here, at the doorstep of his new home in Spero.

Without further delaying he entered the building. There was little furnishing available. A few chairs, a table, a wardrobe and a bed. Not much, but enough for the first task Johan had in mind. Even though it was almost midnight he broke the chairs he didn't need and use the wood from them to barricade the windows. He didn't need people peaking into the windows to see what he was doing, for that the work he was planning to do was too important.

He worked hard throughout the night until he was satisfied the windows were barricaded correctly. After that he went to his bed and took a well earned rest.

More than a week had passed, and Johan was slowly becoming accustomed to his new life in Spero. Although he preferred to operate at night, most of the other persons in the town were active during the day. This forced him to go into the sunlight and trade with them to acquire some necessary goods. Every time he went outside, he made sure his body was fully covered in clothing. No part of his skin needed to touch the sun’s light. Luckily the people of Spero were accustomed to some strange sightings as none of them asked him why he was dressed like that.

In his early days he managed to acquire a bed and a journal. Thanks to the comfiness of his bed he woke up well rested, allowing him to accomplish more each day. Secondly by writing down his day-to-day activities in his journal he quickly noticed some steps he could improve, saving some time each day. Still, he wasn’t placed in Spero to have a comfy life. The main reason he came here was to improve his alchemy skill and now that he had finally settled in a bit it was time to focus on that.

The potions he could make himself were still of inferior quality. Luckily the alchemy shop in the town had lots of work orders for other people. Every night he went there and looked for those orders. It was a great opportunity to learn more and earn some money with it. His skill was slowly improving, but all the work he did was for someone else. It felt like a waste of time to use his knowledge solely for the benefit of others. Although he lacked the equipment to gather his own herbs he started to look into other ways to acquire goods and make better potions for himself.
