Protection Skill

Usually I start with 6 protection in fights, because I have 6 physical resistance, but today, while fighting a mudcrab, my protection was only 2. I hit "stand ground" button 5 times, and it never increases, which is also unusual.

Has there been a change? Is protection limited in water fights? Just a bug?

Hello Helfdane,

Protection Skill has been changed about a day ago, it must been changed wrong Sad
I will fix it this weekend.

The Stand Ground option seems to be a little overpowered when fighting with a mercenary.

As soon I can, I will change it.

the stand ground was rigged, you could keep using it to raise your protection as high as you want. With a protection of just about 30 you won't be able to be hit, then the protection stays with you so it doesn't even matter if you had a mercenary cause you could fight yourself without taking damage.

Aye, the protection ability was pretty overpowered, but my actual Physical Resistance is nerfed now Sad

I think a better balance would be that you cannot hit the Stand Ground button if an enemy is adjacent to you. That way, you can't just keep hitting it over and over until you have a huge amount of protection. 1-2 presses is all.

It's still overpowered at 1-2 presses to be honest. Only way it could work is if you lose it after you strike, though it'd still be rigged with the brute.

Here is my proposition, its not coded yet, so I gladly hear your opinion.

Standing your ground raises your protection.
It never was my purpose to make it cumulative. It was supposed to take your basic protection & make a multiply on it.

The cap of 2 protection is just a temporary effect and absolutely not going to stay like this.

My suggestions:

Standing ground gets reset after each round. So you can press stand
your ground get a bonus for one round & make the choice again next
round either attack or get a bonus.

- Standing ground lower the chance of getting hit, instead of increasing your protection. (you see the attack of the enemy coming faster and be prepared to dodge.

- When standing your ground, your mercenary will not attack and stand his ground as well.

I definitely think your mercenary, or any other NPC's should not get any benefit.

I don't like it going away after you attack once, that makes it pretty much useless. Fights typically last so many rounds, that you might as well just get rid of the ability all together.

I would suggest this:

You can only press the button once, and if you move forwards or backwards, the effect is cancelled. That way the original multiplier formula still works, but the NPC's get no benefit, and it cannot be pressed repeatedly to gain an infinite amount of protection.

*stand ground option updated*

- Mercenary keeps on fighting while you push the stand ground button.
- You receive a certain % of your basic protection skill when standing your ground (which lowers the damage gained in combat).
- This bonus doesn't cumulate any more. After every round you go back to your basic protection.

note:
Standing your ground is only useful if you have a follower who fights with you! When standing your ground, your turn ends. So you won't be able to do damage. In addition, if the monster attacks you first then there is little use at all to press the stand ground button!

It is still bugged. It shows my protection rating to be 4 on the battle screen, but my physical resistance is over 6.

Was the formula changed, then? I used to have 6 protection in fights before the stand ground bug.

Was there a change to the formula? I'm still getting 4 protection in fights. Either I shouldn't be getting 4 protection now, or I shouldn't have been getting 6 protection before. Whichever it should be, it would be nice knowing which is correct, and also why it changed now.

As far I can see the formule for the protection works correctly now. The protection value you have now should be the correct one. If it is lower then what you had then the old coding must had even more bugged then expected.

When formules in the realm get changed, which can happen, they are announced.
