Spero Town Economy Empty Spero Town Economy

Post by anto_capone Sat Aug 20, 2011 11:53 am

Now that the initial *shock* of having the treasury opened up more to the citizens of Spero has worn off, I've mainly noticed the town consistently gaining income.

I just wanted to get some feedback on prices, good or bad; and if the new system of 'opening the town checkbook' is working for you.

I really didn't like the town being out of purchase funding within minutes of each daily reset, as if some mad dash to sell your goods was made. This seemed to make it more fair to all.

So, which way do you like better? How do you think it can improve?

Spero Town Economy Empty Re: Spero Town Economy

I like the open check book approach much better than the I cant sell my goods at all one. They say the more you free up a market the more it adjusts itself till its making money, so Id say, if that's what's happening...good choice there.

Facts as I see them:

1) The private market has random pricing, built on feeling instead of economics.
2) The private market sales are reliant on the town market to set the prices for ingredients, so we know what to price our private made goods at.
3) The town prices for each good needs to be worked out from costs to make them, and then act as a price floor/ceiling for goods, so it encourages proper market prices in our private sector.
4) We are losing residents and only keeping the die hard oldies, ie we arent really growing as we should. Following the above would begin to make that happen.

This is what the new thread in the economic think tank is about, figuring out all the costs and developing, I hope, a strategy for us all to bring our economy into something we know what to do with.

As to prices:

I think all the prices are out of whack, private and town, but what are good, and what are bad? Right now, I wouldnt hesitate to guess, nor, can I say with any directness which prices could do with adjustment. Maybe as we do more work on getting a bottom line price on what it costs to produce things, it will make it easier for the towns to know what to price things at.

What makes you say that? Spero has more residents now than it's ever had before. There are event records in the town office that would say if someone abandoned the town (moved away). Smile

This is a constant work in progress, as things are changed so are the prices; but they've been consistent lately because we think we've reached a good medium for now. Prices can be adjusted, but unless you are going to drastically change prices I don't see anything affecting the price of the private market, which is not controlled by the town.

Most of it is based off of production for balancing. The second modifier is supply/demand.
For example, the town used to buy corn for only 40 bronze because corn had no uses in Spero.
Then when Aro added mood effect for corn we changed the by price to the same as similar yield fields like potatoes.
Then when people sold the town 200+ corn that was not selling, we lowered the buying price.

So it is a constantly evolving process, but in all honesty I don't think the prices of town resources are effecting the price of tools. Most of the cost of tools and items are based off the stamina and availability of said tool or item.

Maybe we should make another thread to discuss our private market, but I think there already is one on another forum. Smile

I know, I was deviating from your topic ^^, its just a topic thats causing an interest for me right now, so I'm seeing everything in those terms.

I am also talking about active people...is that what your records jot down? Its not the big thing, I dont think, Its just a consideration.

I am also sure that I like the prices and pricing system or reasoning a lot better than it is in Camaar, whether that system has changed since Spero started, I dont know.

As far as I'm aware the market code is supposed to go back to how it used to be, right?

But umm, perhaps making a place where citizens of Spero can suggest price changes on the market?? There are a few prices I've seen that should be altered a bit.

As for residents, we can't really be sure on how many we've lost. We have a few less coming on lately, with around 60 active players in the game, but there's probably a few people in retreat, it is summer after all. Any residents lost are not Spero's fault... and I'm afraid it has little if not nothing to do with the private market. The private market is stagnant because there's no demand for its tools, not because people can't afford them.
