The Ruined Farmer Quest

Post by Lord Arogandor on Sat May 11, 2013 10:23 am

The Quest "The Ruined Farmer" is a tutorial that should teach new Seekers the basics about Farm Fields are and how they can use them.
In this Quest the Seeker has to complete a full field cyclus (ploughing, sowing and harvesting). The Ruined Farmer allows the Seeker to work on a field the first 10 field units of each phase or only 10 stamina.
For those who already know how to use fields, the quest can still be useful to complete.
The Quest appears in your Quest Book after you completed OR failed the Bandalf Quest.

Any feedback is appreciated especially spelling errors and hints to make the Tutorial more easy to understand for new Seekers.

Additional Notes:

- You shouldn't be able to get the Ruined Farmer bonus on fields that aren't yours.
- You shouldn't be able to work profit from the Ruined Farmer except for
the field phase that the quest is currently asking you to do.
- You can use the units of 10 stamina on different fields
- You can complete this quest in one day.

Your Feedback:

- Do you think this quest might be helpful to new Seekers who only played a couple of days?
- Did you find the quest explained the basics of having a field?
- Do you find the reward is motivating?
- what would you like to change still?
- Other suggestions to improve this tutorial?

A small problem...

What if I decide not to complete the quest? In that case, I stay forever with a follower that gives me +100 to ploughing... I can plough others' fields happily and hire people to plough my own (or even not hiring?), while keeping the follower bonus to myself.

I understand that you want to allow the quest to end in a single day... But I have 20+ days of gaming and I have no available quests now... It's ok if you let these tutorial quests to last a month or so. After all, the game is long-term based, right? Smile Therefore, you could give the follower a not-so-big bonus... similarly to the ox maybe.

Actually it has been stated that the effect only works on "your" fields so if anything it would only benefit if you did your own fields. I'm pretty sure that's what it said.

You always can quit and fail the quest. Then the follower will leave. For obvious reasons this is not advised.

No matter how long it takes you to complete this quest, you only will profit from the follower for 10 field units in each phase.

Ummm... What Harold said is Possible...
Just by not completing the quest you'll be able to get the 100% Bonus and work on others fields for just 20 Stam...

You can do the other two phases on your own fields too...
In short, It is abusable... >_>

Yes, I've been working on others' fields, ploughing. I'm waiting to see whether this ends or not...

Well...right...

I see now what's wrong Smile

The 100 temporary points on ploughing are not meant to be. That was a left over that I forgot to remove in the code. So I remove the temporary effect on the skill. The farmer then just gives 10 units of each phase for only 10 stamina, but no skill increase.

yaay, the rewards are cool! Smile Go for the ruined miner quest lol

Now seriously, I started 30 days ago... My next quest comes on 100 days of play or so... Maybe more quests should be given at the beginning, tutorial-like quests like these ruined farmer! Now I have to wait two more months before I get a main quest!

I started this quest a day or two after I did the Bandalf Tutorial quest. In the meantime, I cultivated a field and did a couple of work units of ploughing. Mostly it was on a whim, but I also figured that cooking was quite a good way of using up odd points of stamina that are left over each day, so I wanted to grow vegetables that I could use to cook.

As a completely new player, it wasn't at all obvious to me that the Ruined Farmer quest was a tutorial. Now I've started the Ruined Farmer quest, but it won't let me go to the next step...I've finished the ploughing phase of my field but I haven't used up all 10 ploughing units that the Farmer gives me because of the work I did myself before starting the quest. So, I'm kinda stuck and can't progress with the quest Sad

You will either need to plough a new field, or wait until your current one is completely finished, and then grow it all over again.

*edit*

The bonus of the Ruined Farmer can now also be used when working on the field of others.
