A Journal of Adventures Empty A Journal of Adventures

Post by Ceridwen Tue Feb 01, 2011 10:58 pm

Looking out of the window that morning just as she awoke Ceridwen saw glorious sunshine and hopped out of bed fast. She was in such a happy mood as she washed and dressed. Today was the day she was going outside to collect wood. She had been looking forward to going out of town for some time and she was lucky to have found someone to go with her. Everyone said it was safer to have a companion. She thought of how she had met some giant creatures last time she went out. It hadn't really scared her, at least not till later. She had been too exhilarated fighting them and even killing a giant rat! That made her feel on top of the world with confidence. So yes, she was eagerly looking forward to this trip.
She had met Brenainn in the tavern and they got talking. He said he would like to make the trip to get wood so she told him of her last adventures but he seeemes confident enough, and he was a big man so they thought this trip would be easy. She ate her meal then gathering her axe she went off to meet him in the tavern.

A Journal of Adventures Empty Re: A Journal of Adventures

Post by Brenainn Tue Feb 01, 2011 11:34 pm

Brenainn woke with a start. He blinked and looked about, not really sure where he was. His head felt muddled and he squinted as the morning sun streamed into his room. Sitting up, Bren stretched and yawned as memories started to filter through the morning fog of his brain. He remembered sitting in the tavern and meeting Ceridwen; them talking about heading out of town to do some gathering. He rubbed the sleep from his eyes and swung his legs out of bed. He vaguely remembered them talking about meeting this morning to head out together.

Brenainn paused, and looked out his window again. 'Let's meet first thing in the morning at the tavern, then we can head out together...' Ceridwen had said before they headed off to their respective homes last night. "It's morning..." Bren mumbled to himself, and sudden realization that he was to have met her already. A jolt of adrenaline cleared his mind, and Brenainn was off like a shot. He quickly washed, dressed, and bundled himself up. Grabbing his travel pack, 'Thank goodness I packed that last night...', he threw on his cloak, and grabbed his staff and dashed out the door, and half-walked, half-ran towards the tavern, hoping that he hadn't kept Ceridwen waiting too long.

"I'm late, oh, I'm late..."

As she wandered along to the tavernto meet Brenainn she was full of the joys of spring, that lovely feelig one gets when something good had arrived. She strolled into the tavern but he hadn't arrived yet. That was fine, she knew he would be along soon so she ordered a cup of coffee to while away the time, and went over to a seat and placing her bag on the floor at her feet along with her staff and axe she slowly drank her coffee.
She dreamily watched the other patrons coming in and thought about the forthcoming trip. She did hope to get a fair amount of wood today. Strange, she thought. This is the first time I have gone outside for wood. It would be an adventure even if it was a placid one.
She heard the door suddenly slam open and looked up startled out of her reverie. Then chuckled, it was Brenainn. In a rush as usual. "I bet he overslept", she chuckled softly to herself. Then he stopped and gazed about till he spotted her. "Hi, Brenainn, over here, she called pointing to a chair at her table.

Brenainn reached the door of the tavern, half out of breath. He didn't see her outside, and hoped that she would be inside. He pushed against the door, but in his haste, he shoved it harder than he had intended, and before he could grasp the handle and catch it, it went crashing into the wall. Bren winced and and stepped inside, feeling his cheeks flush with embaressment. Muttering a quiet, "Sorry," he closed the door behind him then turned to look about, letting his eyes adjust to the dim light inside.

As Bren spotted her, he smiled, relieved as Ceridwen waved to him, saying, "Hi, Brenainn, over here," then pointedg to a chair at her table. He quickly made his way to her table, and pulled out the chair and sat down. "Sorry... guess I overslept this morning. Hope you weren't waiting too long."

Brenainn set down his travel pack on the floor, along with his staff, and threw back his cloak.

While Brenainn made his way over to her and sat down, Ceridwen signalled the innkeeper for some more coffee for them both. She smiled looking at his ruffled countenance. "Calm down, 'tis but only an minute since I arrived .so you are not really late."she told him trying to hold onto her giggles.
Whilst they waited for the coffee she thought of the adventure ahead and looked forward to it. She wondered if they would meet some creatures like she did before or whether they would have a quiet, uneventful trip.
Either way she didn't mind. She had been living quietly in town and felt going outside would be good to relieve the tedium somewhat. Besides she did need to get wood. Looking up she realised their coffee had been brought to their table and she thanked the girl, who placed it on the table. Ceridwen then turned to Brenainn and asked him if he was looking forward to their first foray outside the town walls. She hoped he still was, because she would be a bit disappointed if he wasn't.
Studying his face she knew he was a quiet man but very nice in his ways and did think he didn't always say what he felt about things. It was important though that he was really wanting to go or they could run into trouble. She knew she did get a bit enthusiastic over things at times. Deciding to find out for certain she asked him, "Are you really sure you want to go Brenainn? I don't want you to feel you must because I asked it of you."

Brenainn relaxed a bit, when Ceridwen told him she'd only gotten there a short while before him. She smiled and seemed to be holding in her laughter, and he grinned a bit sheepishly, flushed a little. He raised his hands to smooth his hair and redo the tie for his hair. Bren smiled a thank you when the serving girl brought him a hot cup of what smelled like coffee. He lifted it and sipped it. 'Yes, definately coffee,' as the hot liquid seemed to infuse him. He savoured the drink, while trying to remember if he had packed everything.

Ceridwen leaned forward and touched his arm to get his attention, asking "Are you really sure you want to go Brenainn? I don't want you to feel you must because I asked it of you."

Bren flushed a little, realizing that he'd been ignoring his erstwhile companion. Smiling reassuringly, he nodded his head. "Aye, I am sure. I've been looking forward to explorin' outside of town too."

Ceri sits back with a sigh, very relieved Bren is really looking forward to going. She had been afraid that in her enthusiasm she had rather pushed him into it, but now it seems not. She looked at him flustered and not quite sure what he was doing and chuckled. It was a good thing he was more sure of himself while outside!
"Are you sure you have everything?" she asked amused. "You look a little bit like a mother hen who's not sure if she's got all her chicks. Reaching for her coffee Ceri mused on the silly way they went last time, unprepared. Just like two kids on an adventure. She realised they really were very lucky that day. Things could have been so much worse. This time they were better prepared with more knowledge of what was out there. Still, she was going to enjoy it.
She glanced around and saw the place was now getting empty so they had finish their coffee and set off.
She looked at Bren and enquired,"Are you ready? If so, then we can start off now.

Brenainn chuckled a bit when she compared him to a mother hen. "Yeah, well, I just hate feeling rushed. I'm always afraid that I've forgotten something!" He quickly finished with his hair, then doing a final check of his gear, 'Yup, all here!' he took up his coffee (which had cooled off quite a bit), and finished drinking it.

So when Ceri asked, "Are you ready? If so, then we can start off now," Bren quickly glumped down the remains of his drink and gathered up his gear. Standing, he glanced towards Ceridwen as she also stood. "Aye, I am." He smiled at her. "At least, this time I am!" And with that, he turned and followed her to the door and outside into the morning air.

Ceridwen smiled and walked out with Bren behind her. They walked to the town gate and nodding to the guard who told them. "All has been quiet out here of late." They made their way along the path for a while then set up camp. "We can start off now and we may be able to get some wood before nightfall." She suggested to Bren.

She picked up her staff and a torch just in case they needed it. Then they walked on towards the woods. After they had walked for some distance, a Bambi appeared almost in front of Ceridwen. She glanced quickly at Bren and saw he had become involved in tackling a giant rat, it seemed he had his own problems.

Ceridwen looked at Bambi and circled it while she thought about what she should do next. They had not really thought of meeting monsters this early if at all. Everyone had been notified in town of the emergence of a new creature seen in the wilds out here. They were also informed that though this creature, named as Bambi, looked cute, it was in fact, highly dangerous. This she could believe seeing the way it was studying her. Unexpectedly, it rushed at her and butted her, then swiftly turning kicked out at her with it's hind legs.

Ceridwen went flying backwards to the ground, stunned and winded. Keeping watch on the Bambi, she painfully arose, picking up her staff as she did so.

She was angry now and giving it no time to do anything, she retaliated by swinging her staff in circles and rushing at the creature, she gave it a hefty swipe across it's back, then another to it's head. "Take that, you spiteful animal, and see how you like it." she yelled. She drew back to a safe distance and after swiftly looking to Brenainn, who appeared to be dealing with a Bat as well as having to have dealt with the Rat. She turned back to the Bambi just in time to avoid being killed from it's deadly hooves.

She was by now, beginning to feel a lot of pain but she could not give in. It may turn on Bren and he had enough to deal with as it was.

Suddenly it darted to the side and before she could gather herself to avoid it, Bambi swung about and dealt her a powerful kick to her ribs. Thankfully, it caught one of her arms, so only one hoof hit her ribs. Even so she still went flying sideways and hit the ground hard. It then rushed in to her and tried to bite he as she raised her arms to protect herself. Ceridwen brought her legs up swiftly kicking Bambi in the head and away from herself.

Bambi ran off aways, giving Ceridwen time to shake her head and get her wits back. It was not quite so easy to clamber up this time but she did so, feeling this definitely was not going to be her day.

Taking a deep breath and lifting her staff that, somehow, she had held onto. Ceridwen knew she was going to have to end this or be killed. She could not take much more punishment from those deadly hooves, nor from it's attempted biting. So holding onto her staff with painful desperation and not a little fear, she grimly dashed to the right, startling the Bambi, then diverting to the front, she raised her staff and swung it around her body and suddenly lashed out left and right. Swiftly raising it back she dealt a formidable blow to the side of Bambi's head.

Before the creature could react, Ceridwen decided to retreat so ran back as fast as possible. Seeing her go Bambi turned and limped off, happily not so much a winner in it's pain.

Ceridwen then sank to the ground exhausted and in terrible pain as the adrenalin lowered. She realised by now her left arm was badly injured and gently feeling her ribs, she knew she had several broken ones from that final kick from Bambi. Her legs, mainly at thigh level were painful. Tenderly exploring them she discovered they were cut, with torn flesh, bleeding and badly bruised. Some of the cuts were bleeding but not life-threateningly so. Even so she knew they had to be stopped or she would die of blood loss.

Falling in and out of counsciousness, She pulled off her kerchief and with her teeth she tore it into strips to tie around the serious cuts and tears.

Finally, having done the best she could with her failing, remaining strength, she lay back breathless and barely managing to stay in her senses. She turned her head seeking Brenainn. "Oh no, how willl he get away from them?" she murmured, horrified.

There ahead and to the right of her, some distance off, was her friend in trouble with a deadly fight against two boar. Helpless tears rolled weakly down her cheeks as she realized the chances of them both surviving were now almost gone. Knowing she had encouraged her friend to come with her and now she could be the one responsible for his death, hit her hard.

"Why did I not prepare better than this? Why did I not give him better warning that this could happen?"

She knew she could not help him. She was in serious difficulty with her injuries herself and all she could do was watch and pray for him. She willed her mind to send him strength not even sure it would help. Then pain and sheer exhaustion overcame her and she passed out, not knowing the outcome of Brenainn's fight.

Brenainn was happy as he and Ceridwen left the town and stood on the edge of the open fields leading away from town. The sun was shining, and the birds chirped happily. Drawing in a deep breath, Bren smiled and set off down the road with Ceri. They traveled down the road towards the woods, chatting quietly about the nice weather and sunshine. Suddenly before him lurched a giant rat! "Great Cú Chulainn!" Bren exclaimed in surprise. Clutching his staff in both hands, he swung it and fended off the attacking Rat.

Bren cast a quick glance over his shoulder, to see where Ceridwen was, and saw that she was some ways off, fending off a Bambi. 'What the...?' Bren thought, then flinched back as the rat's teeth scored the flesh of his leg. He chastised himself for letting himself be distracted. He thrust the end of his staff, and drove back the rat. Soon though, he was able to dispatch the rat without much more fuss. Bren sighed in relief and turned to help Ceri, only to have a boar come charging out of the woods towards him. Feeling emboldened by his success against the rat, Brenainn braced himself and met the charge of the boar, only to find himself thrown back from the ferocious attack. Scrambling back to his feet, Bren charged back and swung at the boar. Soon, he lost track of what was happening, as he dueled with the enraged pig.

Brenainn was breathing heavy. He had thrust and jabbed, and parried the boar, This was harder than he'd ever imagined. Sweat was pouring off his brow, and he tried to wipe it to keep his eyes clear, then stumbled back, trying to parry like mad as the pig leaped at him. He thrust, and struck the boar a solid blow, and it seemed to partially crumple. Feeling a surge of adrenaline, Bren stepped forward to dispatch the beast, when suddenly a second boar came charging out and past the fallen one. Bren blocked it's attack frantically. 'Two! Great Cú Chulainn, help me!' Bren prayed desperately.

Brenainn began to feel the multiple gouges, slashes and bites he'd gotten. His arms began to feel like lead, and his breath seemed to catch in his throat, as he fought for both his life and for breath. He swung and parried, thrust and blocked. He stepped back and away from the attacking boars, hoping, praying for something to happen. Then suddenly, the injured one seemed to get caught up in the other boar, and Bren thrust forward with the tip of his staff with all of his waning strength. He heard and felt the crunching of ribs, and the pig suddenly collapsed. Alas, just as Bren felt a surge of hope and relief, the second one thrust past his feeble attempt to block it, and sunk its teeth into his shoulder. The sudden weight of the boar bearing against him, along with the sharp pain of his injury, cause Brenainn to loose his grasp on his staff and fall backwards.

He hit the ground with a jolt, his breath being driven from him, as his head slammed backwards into a rock. The world before Bren spun into a whirlpool of darkness. His last conscious though was, 'I hope Ceri manages to escape...'
