Eleanor's Perch Empty Eleanor's Perch

Post by Eleanor Norton Tue Feb 28, 2017 2:26 pm

It had been a couple of months now since Joshua had begged Eleanor to come to this small hobble of a town of Sarmiz.  She did all she could to resist his begging, but in the end, he won the better of her.  She had seen Joshua’s handiwork at building the town, and yet, she still felt like she was marooned in a strange world a century behind the rest of the realm.

The dirt roads that puddled when it rained, the dismal sheds a few of the less fortunate residents called their homes.  The smell of the burning garbage, and the ash that littered the town when the winds changed.  The forest seemed to want to claim Sarmiz for itself.  The black mold penetrated everything it could – even paper.  Especially paper.  At the time of this writing, there existed in the whole of Sarmiz but one book.  Not one of the classics like The Advice of Archibald, but Livre de Potage

When the topic of Sarmiz had come up in the past with Joshua, Eleanor did grumble.  But, she had since accepted the world she found herself in.  Slowly she was learning how this world worked, the patterns, the best practices of life here, and the residents that were fun to talk to.  She accepted her misadventures as a learning experience, and cautiously waited for her next.  It seemed Sarmiz was growing on Eleanor.

And in these short months since Eleanor’s arrival, she had already become one of the most loved creatures in the realm for the year!  She nervously saw her popularity rise above that of Joshua, and hoped he wouldn’t notice.  She knew what he had invested to create this new life for himself.  She understood why.  She was still figuring out how to escape a few of the anxieties of her past too…

Eleanor's Perch Empty Lovers' Quarrel

Post by Eleanor Norton Sat Mar 04, 2017 3:29 pm

Eleanor looked at the 8 bronze in her purse.  She had nothing in the bank, but she was in good spirits and nicely fed.

Her Mayor had suggested she find more profitable work, uninterested in hearing how she had just spent her money on the overpriced cows the town reluctantly offered.  Still, she was happy with her cows – and her ability to now enjoy fresh raw milk – a privilege deemed illegal in some realms.

Instead, the Mayor really only had eyes for one of Sarmiz’s residents.  A troublemaker that had solicited for a revolt by way of launching a poll.  Most of what the Mayor had to say was about the troublemaker, and much of what the troublemaker had to say was about the Mayor.  Then there were other troublemakers in town, relishing in this moment to make additional havoc for this northernmost outpost of the realm, known as Sarmiz…

The reality was, the wall of text the troublemaker provided as his reason for his solicitation of a revolt, was excruciatingly daunting for the light of heart.  Those a bit tougher were just as likely to practice their apathy skills, and avoid the missive.  Eleanor knew she was not alone in feeling Sarmiz needed an intervention – and that the troublemaker in question might not be the best solution.

Eleanor gave a silent cry when the topic of Sarmiz got bypassed to debate who of the Mayor and the troublemaker were the greater of the two – or the more villainous.  The arguments were personal, and thus resembled something more akin to a Lovers’ Quarrel.  In this town that gets no vote for what gets built or upgraded, perhaps constructive arguments would be too much to ask for.

Still, Eleanor had her own progress to be excited over.  In a week’s time, she hoped to have the ability to make soup!  In the meanwhile, she was in the mood to make something sweet.  Luckily, she had all the needed ingredients to make a cake to brighten up someone’s tomorrow with.  She was fairly proud of her confectionery skills, and knew the cake would be sure to brighten their day.

Eleanor's Perch Empty Blue Eyes

Post by Eleanor Norton Mon Mar 06, 2017 6:06 pm

The sheets were cool against her skin as Eleanor slowly woke up to the soft sent of herbs growing in the window box.

She rolled to her side, and smiled as she saw the most beautiful set of blue eyes gazing affectionately, wantingly into her hazel eyes.  His hair was lush and thick – she never needed an excuse to brush her fingers through.  He made not a sound, as he smiled his large, ever so charismatic smile.  There was no hiding what he sought – nor denying it.

Eleanor softly pressed her forehead against his, and whispered, “I love you.”

Quickly, she jumped out of bed, threw on a coat, slipped on her boots, and tied up her long hair.  She found the braided leash, and her blue eyed wolfish dog flew to the door – just in time to welcome a startled messenger.

The messenger was young, and unfamiliar with Eleanor’s home.  Bugged-eyed, the messenger lost his ability to speak as he provided Eleanor with her messages and ran off.

Eleanor was left amused as she continued her stroll.  Curious, she looked at her messages as she walked along.  There was a lovely thank you card from the Grail Lords Post for using their services to send Joshua a Tasty Cake, and a rather ornate envelope congratulating Eleanor on becoming the new Press Officer of Sarmiz.

Eleanor's Perch Empty Barbarians

Post by Eleanor Norton Tue Mar 28, 2017 1:15 pm

Eleanor couldn’t help but shake her head.  She had traveled so far, and yet the dreaded Barbarians were still to be found.  Despite all her Tae Kwon Do skills, her fur boots did nothing but tickle the vile creatures, though a few fell over laughing.  The critical misses were the worst though - when she would try giving a roundhouse kick to a rather monstrous barbarian, they would take hold of her ankle and tip her over.  Eleanor knew her next set of boots really needed to come with spikes!

In fact, Eleanor increasingly understood after each attempt at attacking the sordid lot, how much she needed armor.  She could feel people looking at her sideways as she walked away from the battlefront wearing nothing other than her fur boots.  She looked more like she had lost a few rounds wrestling in the mud rather than fighting for the honour of her town.  There was a promise her efforts would be rewarded with clothes.  There seemed to be something cruel about making clothing deprived seekers fight in order to have enough clothing to be deemed decent though.

None the less, Eleanor braved through the battles the best she could.  She shrugged the experience off as a sort of hazing ritual, as she cleaned the Barbarian matter off her skin, and out of her fur boots.

Once cleaned, she could resume her duties as Press Officer and attempt to guide the citizens of her home town.  Her writing abilities had been praised for her first two attempts, but she couldn’t help but feel disappointed from the scarcity of responses.  Eleanor had to consider the possibility of taking a more drastic approach.

Eleanor's Perch Empty Soup

Post by Eleanor Norton Wed Mar 29, 2017 7:43 pm

Eleanor was baking her potatoes when suddenly her wolfish friend came rushing into her kitchen, hit her hand from underneath with his nose, and a potato flew into the shiny new cauldron Eleanor had just received.

As though a cloud had lifted from her mind, Eleanor suddenly knew enough about cooking to make soup.  She reached into her cupboard for all her favorite spices and felt as though she were casting the greatest of all magical spells.  To Eleanor, her first soup was an all important spell.  The fogginess that had eluded the ancient art of soup making was now gone.

Eleanor fixed herself a bowl of homemade potato soup and retreated to her favorite hammock.  The creaminess of the soup, the aroma of the spices, the warmth she felt as she enjoyed each savory spoonful...

There were many things that troubled Eleanor.  But in this moment, all that existed was a bit of good company, and the best soup of all the realm.  At the very least, she knew there was no soup better than the bowl she was enjoying.

Eleanor pondered all the possibilities of the world of soup.  She had a fresh cut of lamb meat she had recently bought.  Perhaps tomorrow she would enjoy a bit of a stew.

The more Eleanor thought about the potentials of meat soup, the more her wolfy companion’s eyes glowed out of anticipation.  Eleanor chuckled.  "Only the potato soup for tonight, my love."  Then, Eleanor put a heaping spoonful of the soup in the dog’s dish for him to enjoy.
